We are profoundly heartbroken to learn of the tragic Air India Flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, India, on June 12, 2025, which claimed the lives of 241 passengers and crew members, and others on the ground, including students at B.J. Medical College. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and communities mourning this immense loss.
This devastating accident, which left only one survivor, has shaken the hearts of people across the globe. We extend our deepest condolences to the people and Government of India, as well as to the families of all those affected, including the 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, one Canadian national, and others whose lives were tragically cut short. Among the victims was Gujarat’s former Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, whose contributions to his state and nation will be remembered.
We pray that the Almighty grants mercy to the souls of the departed. We also ask for strength and patience for the bereaved families during this time of overwhelming sorrow. We pray for a swift recovery to those injured and provide solace to all impacted by this tragedy.
The Global Imams Council commends the swift response of emergency services, authorities, and caregivers in Ahmedabad, and we call for unity and support for all those affected. We stand in solidarity with the global community in grieving this catastrophic loss and pray for healing and peace.
