The Global Imams Council Strongly Condemns Shooting at U.S. Consulate in Toronto

As our communities observe Ramadan, a month that calls us to stand firmly for justice, the Global Imams Council unequivocally condemns the shooting at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto on March 10, 2026, which authorities are investigating as a national security incident.

Such acts of violence and intimidation against diplomatic missions are utterly unacceptable. Consulates embody international cooperation, dialogue, and peaceful relations between nations; attacking them threatens public safety, the rule of law, and global stability.

From moral and religious standpoints, the Global Imams Council firmly rejects all forms of violence, extremism, and aggression that target institutions or instill fear. These contradict the core values of justice, responsibility, compassion, and respect for human dignity enshrined in our faith and shared human principles.

Canada’s reputation as a beacon of democracy, diversity, and peaceful coexistence among all faiths and backgrounds must be protected. Acts aimed at sowing division or fear stand in direct opposition to these ideals.

We stand in solidarity with our American partners, Canadian authorities, and all communities affected by this incident. The Global Imams Council calls on everyone — religious leaders, community members, and citizens — to reject violence in all its forms and actively uphold peace, mutual respect, and harmony.

We urge continued collaboration to ensure Canada’s tradition of safety and unity remains unshakeable.

May wisdom and peace prevail.
