The Global Imams Council (GIC) unequivocally condemns the heinous knife attack that occurred in Solingen, Germany, resulting in the tragic loss of three innocent lives and the injury of eight others. This senseless act of violence, claimed by the Islamic State (ISIS) as a so-called act of “revenge,” is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by extremist ideologies that seek to exploit religious sentiments to justify terrorism.
This terrorist attack is not only an affront to the values of Islam but also a crime against humanity. The GIC extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of Germany. We call upon law enforcement agencies and governments to work diligently in bringing the perpetrators to justice and to continue their efforts to dismantle extremist networks that threaten the safety and security of communities around the world.
Since its founding in 2014, the GIC has stood firmly against all forms of extremism and terrorism. Our Council was established in response to the rise of ISIS, particularly to counteract its dangerous ideology and the havoc it wreaked in Iraq and beyond. The GIC remains committed to promoting a peaceful and authentic understanding of Islam, one that upholds the sanctity of human life, justice, and compassion for all.
The Global Imams Council reiterates its commitment to combating terrorism and radicalism through education, dialogue, and the promotion of a narrative that champions peace, coexistence, and respect for all. We urge Muslims and non-Muslims alike to stand united against those who seek to divide us with fear and hatred. It is through our collective efforts that we can build a world free from the scourge of terrorism.
