Unity Through Peace and Dialogue

GIC Ottawa Declaration

On December 4, 2024, The Global Imams Council (GIC) signed a historic declaration in the precincts of the Canadian Parliament, hosted by senators and witnessed by key figures and MPs. The declaration reaffirms a commitment to the monotheistic principles of faith, compassion, and acceptance as revealed through the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him. It embraces Abraham’s ethos as a model of courage for confronting those who distort the Holy Quran to justify terrorism and violate the dignity and rights inherent in Islam. It emphasizes the Abrahamic ethos as vital to establishing freedom, justice, and peace. Furthermore, the declaration reaffirms the importance of the Abraham Accords in advancing peace, mutual understanding, and interfaith collaboration globally, particularly in the Middle East; and commits to working with governments and diverse communities to fully realize the promise of the Accords, striving for a future of prosperity free from terrorism and hatred.
