The Global Imams Council Delegation to The Republic of Kosovo was received by The Honorable Fadil Nura, Mayor of Skenderaj, the largest city in the Drenica geographical region of Kosovo. Skenderaj is Kosovo’s ‘city of resistance against terrorism’ and is noted for surviving Serbia’s attempted ethnic cleansing of Kosovan Muslims in 1995.
Discussions throughout the meeting revolved around the significance of The Global Imams Council’s work and representation of Islam and Muslims throughout the world and particularly within government departments.
The Honorable Mayor Fadil Nura then invited the leadership of The Global Imams Council to a visit of The Memorial Complex of Prekaz Massacre in the same city of Skenderaj, in honor of the families and lives of the Muslims killed in the Kosovo War of 1998. The memorial is routinely visited by world leaders and diplomats from around the world.
