JOINT STATEMENT BY THE GLOBAL IMAMS COUNCIL
AND THE CONFERENCE OF IMAMS OF FRANCE
ON DEVELOPMENTS CONCERNING THE REGIME IN IRAN
As representatives of the Muslim faith, we, The Global Imams Council and The Conference of Imams of France, are compelled by our shared Islamic values to speak out against actions undertaken in the name of Islam that perpetuate global violence and terrorism, legitimize heretical genocidal ideologies, and undermine the foundational principles of humanity as articulated in The Holy Quran.
Therefore, we stand today to condemn in the strongest terms the hijacking of our faith by the Iranian regime that is openly committed to threatening the safety and future of the entire international community, justifies the cruelest forms of oppression, and actively seeks to poison the minds of Muslim and non-Muslim youth across the globe with its deviant theology.
We unequivocally condemn the Iranian regime for its sponsorship of international terrorism as a cornerstone of its foreign policy; for its notorious record as one of the planet’s most egregious human rights abusers; for its involvement in criminal endeavors across the globe; and for its savage oppression of its own citizens, including children, women, minorities—both Muslim and non-Muslim—and dissidents.
The illegitimate regime in Iran has consistently and deliberately acted in ways that contradict the most basic ethical and moral teachings of Islam. We, as Imams and scholars based in the West, stand united against the regime’s agenda—an agenda committed to the destruction of the international order and the elimination of all who oppose it.
Today, we call for unity among all peoples, regardless of faith or background, to prevent the regime and its extremist cohorts—of any denomination or affiliation—from achieving their malevolent objectives.
In light of recent developments, we are reminded that the regime’s ambitions are neither theoretical nor aspirational. Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons and its indiscriminate bombing of civilians are actions that haunt the global conscience. This is not a time for vague calls for restraint that only further enable this monstrous entity, but a moment that demands vigilance, courage, and clarity, especially in confronting regime apologists and propagandists operating in the West—particularly in Europe, Canada, and the United States.
We call upon responsible governments, religious institutions, and civil society to utilize all the tools at their disposal to address these violations with courage and honesty, and to support the Iranian people, who continue to suffer under an oppressive regime, as they strive for dignity, freedom, and peace.
To our brothers and sisters in faith, and to all people of goodwill, we reaffirm our commitment to fighting the corrosive global influence of the regime in Iran and other extremists of all affiliations, agents of death and hatred, falsely claiming Islamic legitimacy in seeking to fracture the social cohesion and coexistence that Islam expects us to pursue wherever we as Muslims may reside. Let us work together to build a world where human life is cherished, where justice prevails, and where the true spirit of Islam, a spirit of peace and mercy, shines as a beacon of hope for all humanity.
