The Global Imams Council is pleased to share a significant update concerning a pressing issue in Ontario, Canada. Hizb-ut-Tahrir Canada, an extremist organization notorious for its radical rhetoric and rejection of pluralism, had planned to hold a “Caliphate Conference 2025” in Hamilton on January 18, 2025.

Hizb-ut-Tahrir is widely known for promoting an ideology that undermines democratic principles and social harmony. With a history of spreading divisive propaganda and advocating for Islamist supremacy, the group poses a clear threat to Canada’s multicultural fabric. It rejects the integration of Muslims into Canadian society and targets vulnerable Muslim youth for radicalization.

In light of this, The Global Imams Council issued an urgent appeal to Public Safety Canada on January 10, 2025, urging decisive action. We are encouraged by the subsequent cancellation of the planned conference, a likely result of mounting public scrutiny and the responsible response of Canadian authorities. This highlights the importance of unified efforts in countering extremist threats and safeguarding our communities.

Our resolve remains steadfast: we will continue working closely with Canadian officials and community leaders to secure a formal ban and terrorist designation of Hizb-ut-Tahrir in Canada. With 17 countries, including several Muslim-majority states, having already outlawed the organization, we believe Canada must take similar action to prevent it from operating, fundraising, and recruiting within its borders.

The GIC’s efforts and stance on this issue have been covered by Canadian national media, including today’s article in The Globe and Mail.

The Global Imams Council reaffirms its commitment to promoting peace, coexistence, and social harmony across Canada. We remain dedicated to working with government authorities and communities nationwide to protect Canada’s democratic values and multicultural society.
