The Global Imams Council (GIC) condemns in the strongest possible terms the recent sermon delivered by Adan Abyat. This individual is not recognized as an Imam or scholar by the Global Imams Council.

The invocation of divine curses upon entire groups of people based on their religion or beliefs is a gross violation of the principles of coexistence and mutual respect. Such rhetoric and glorification of terrorism is entirely unacceptable and has no place in our society. It only serves to perpetuate division, animosity, and conflict within our communities.

We must protect our Muslim communities, especially the most vulnerable, from preachers who glorify terrorism, while also safeguarding the broader Canadian society from such harmful rhetoric.

We applaud the swift response of B.C. authorities and the instant investigation by the RCMP into this matter. It is crucial that those who propagate violence are held accountable.

We reiterate our commitment to promoting peace, harmony, and understanding. We call upon all community leaders to denounce such hate speech and work towards fostering an environment of respect and harmony. There is no place for violence, extremism or terrorism in our society.
